Thieves reportedly attempted to take the entire 53-foot trailer containing the shipment, but when their efforts were in vain they opted to open the trailer and made off with the $3,000 worth of pet food contained in 100 bags.

The dog food company representative told deputies that the trailer doors had been pushed open and that the trailer itself had been moved away from the loading dock by a truck.
