LATHROP – Nonprofit organizations in Lathrop have until 4 p.m. on Thursday to submit their lottery application forms for Safe and Sane Fireworks fund-raisers this year.

The city is holding the lottery because only four permits are available. The number of permits allowed is based on a city’s population according to the mandates of the State Fire Marshal which regulates Safe and Sane Fireworks.

Completed applications may be submitted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today and Thursday at the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District office at 800 J Street in Historic Old Town Lathrop. Interested groups are encouraged to submit the applications as early as possible so that there is time enough to review the applications and notify applicants in the event information is incomplete. A refundable permit application fee of $250 must accompany the application. In case a group is not selected, the fee will be refunded in full.

Applicants must be present during the lottery drawing which will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 4 p.m. at Lathrop City Hall, 390 Towne Centre Drive at Mossdale Landing.

Organizations selected to sell Safe and Sane Fireworks may submit their permit application starting on June 1.  Those applications are also available at the fire district office on J Street, at Lathrop City Hall or online at www.ci.lathrop.ca.us. In addition, a $250 refundable security deposit must be paid at the same time the application is submitted.
