With the last Farmer’s Market of the season rolling in next week, local family farmer Bulmaro Campuzano will have to find another local market to fill his Tuesdays until the winter brings a halt to the prime growing season.

But the combination of temperate summer weather – a far cry from the triple digit days that the market was struck with multiple times last year – and a low-cost form of family entertainment has brought many people past to the booth where Campuzano has provided everything from white corn to fresh peppers during the weekly installments that this year have incorporated themes to help attract shoppers.

“Business has been pretty good here this year – the people have been nice,” Campuzano said. “Now we’ll be moving to another market this day of the week to another city, and then we’ll be waiting until next season.”

While the crowd Tuesday was slightly smaller than it has been in weeks past, the idea of having a themed evening – something that the Convention and Visitors Bureau came up with to promote the market – seemed to pay off with local youngsters who turned out for the Guitar Hero tournament that was co-sponsored by Best Buy.

According to CVB organizer John Heath, the event even drew some unlikely competitors – like him – to join in the fun.

“I have to say that I didn’t make it out of the first round,” Heath said jokingly. “But the event that Best Buy sponsored with us was a lot of fun and people really seemed to come out and enjoy themselves.

“The kids really got into it, and that brings the parents out to browse some of the farmers and vendors that have been absolutely great this year.”

The market will end next week on Tuesday, Aug. 25, when Delta Powersports and the CVB team up to present Outdoor Adventures – bringing in ATV’s, toy haulers, motor homes, and possibly even boats to show just some of the possibilities that are out there for adventurous residents.
The event will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
