The New Haven School Community Club is looking to purchase supply of pencils and hand sanitizers for youngsters.

The funding will come from the annual rib dinner and dance planned for Saturday, Nov. 7, at the MRPS Hall, 133 N. Grant St., Manteca.

“We try to purchase a little bit of everything for our teachers,” said Jenny Gomes, who, along with Cyndi Ward, is co-chairing this year’s annual event.

“They really don’t have many of the basics due to the recent cutbacks.”

The hand sanitizers are necessary as a safeguard to youngsters during the cold and flu season, Gomes noted.

The dinner dance is the Community Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The group, for example, was able to purchase playground equipment from the proceeds raised at previous events.

Some of the funding from the upcoming event will help bring assemblies to the school and, according to Gomes, “whatever our teachers need.”

She added that a suggestion box was made available to help fill those needs.

As for the dinner and dance, Fagundes is providing the all-you-can-eat ribs.

The evening will include a raffle and silent auction along with no-host cocktails from 6 to 7 p.m.

Dinner will be served at 7 o’clock and dancing will go from 9 to midnight.

Tickets are $30 per person (21 and older only) and are available at the school office.
