Manteca Morning Rotary Club hosted its annual Speech Contest on Feb. 2.

Students from East Union High School participated in the event held at the club’s regular Tuesday morning meeting at Doctors Hospital of Manteca.

The topic was “The Future is in Our Hands” which is based on this year’s Rotary International Theme. First place was awarded to Qualyn Dixon who is a senior. She received a check for $125 and the opportunity to compete at the Area 4 contest to be held in Tracy on February 24. The District final will be held on March 13 and the winner will deliver his/her speech at the Rotary District 5220 Convention to be held in Lake Tahoe on May 1.

Second place and a check for $100 was awarded to Travis Howe. Tommy Klingenfuss rounded out the competition and went home with a check for $75 for his third place effort. The contest was also attended by East Union teacher Bob Prichard.
