Thousands and thousands of dollars have been doled out over the years to college students in health career majors by the Doctors Hospital Auxiliary from the profits in the group’s gift shop.
Scholarship chair for the Auxiliary Edith Brown took the time Wednesday afternoon to explain the options of the program to Regional Occupational Program student Sariah Davidson who had been assigned to work with her at the front counter.
The Sierra High senior hopes to eventually become an ICU nurse and will be able to apply for help from the Auxiliary when she has completed her first year in college.
Davidson said she is inspired by her mother who had wanted to enter nursing when she was younger but caring for her children had become more important than school at the time.
Applications may be picked up at the hospital’s front counter on Monday, Feb. 18, and must be returned no later than April 15. Applicants will be reviewed on a variety of measures including grade point averages, volunteering history, honors and leadership experience.
Doctors Hospital of Manteca is one of the largest firms in Manteca and has more than 400 employees and a medical staff of some 160 physicians with 73 beds.
