The Doctors Hospital of Manteca Auxiliary volunteers are seeking applications for their medical scholarships to help fund college tuitions from the profits of their gift shop in the hospital lobby.
In the past the auxiliary has awarded as much as $20,000 a year in scholarships.
There were 10 recipients in last year with the highest scholarship going to Tyler Goslinga with a $4,000 grant.  A middle award of $1,800 went to Kaylie Colyn and the lowest grant went to Jordon Lamb for $800.   The hospital auxiliary has been handing out the scholarships since the hospital opened its doors in 1962 for over 55 years of giving.
The application packets for the current year will be available at the hospital’s front desk on East North Street beginning Monday, Feb. 20.  Applicants must be residents of the Manteca Unified School District including Lathrop, French Camp, Weston Ranch as well as the Ripon Unified School District.
Those applying for the scholarships must be in their second year of medically associated classes at an accredited community college, or a four year college or university.  They will be reviewed on grade point averages, volunteer history, community involvement, honors, leadership experience and financial need.
Applications must be returned to the hospital either by mail or hand delivered no later than Monday, April 3.  For questions contact committee chairman Linda Checchi at 209.665.7300 or co-chair Judy Smith at 209.665.4506.
