Two eastbound truck and trailer rigs collided on Roth Road before noon Thursday sending one careening through the chain link fence bordering the north side of the former Sharpe Army Defense Depot and west of the main entrance.
Firefighters from French Camp, Lathrop and the Defense Depot all responded to the scene where the one driver had been pinned in the cab of his truck. It took firemen more than 30 minutes to safely extricate the trucker. After popping the door with the Jaws of Life, they were able to inch him out through the sleeper compartment of the rig.
Deputies said the accident occurred when a truck owned by ACT Trucking of Manteca was making a left turn into a commercial site on the north side of the roadway. The second truck from Hub Group, Inc. was believed to have clipped the rear of the ACT trailer as it catapulted through another chain link fence.
The eastbound lane of Roth Road was blocked for more than an hour. An air ambulance was dispatched but later called off.
