It’s all about a 4-year-old boy who doesn’t want much for his fifth and probably his last birthday – “just a card,” he told his dad as he is dying from leukemia.

Georgina Huamani of Manteca is the boy’s cousin and she is doing her best to encourage area residents to send their cards to the youngster enmasse with a deadline of this Sunday. 

The cards can be dropped off at her home at 1214 Laurel Park Circle, Manteca, 95337.  Another address for the cards is at the Larson residence at 1750 Daniels Street, Manteca, 95337.  Georgina is hoping to mail them on to Kansas in bulk on Tuesday.

Kiandon has been in Children’s Hospital for the last three years in his attempt to conquer the blood disease.  The doctors finally sent him home to be with family when they determined there was nothing more they could do for him estimating he could live a week to several weeks yet.  

They boy’s aunt, Mary Schaffer, had the idea of asking for cards for him and the request has already gone worldwide to as far away as New York and Thailand to California.  She has already received upwards of 1,000 cards.

He is being unofficially adopted by his dad’s former National Guard unit in Kansas making him an “honorary soldier” Friday night. The Guard unit is presenting him with a fatigue uniform and boots to fit with his name engraved on them at a special birthday party they are hosting next Friday that will be aired on Fox 40, Stockton – Sacramento.

Kiandon’s favorite color is “camel” to go with the uniform.  His dad served in Iraq and in Germany with the Army.

In addition to any cards, his other favorites are action figures and super heroes.  His dad has contacted the “Make a Wish Foundation” hoping his son can still travel to California and see the redwood trees – his second wish.
