The East Union Lancer Battalion held an Ice Cream Social on Oct. 12 to honor the cadets of JROTC and their families, friends and guests. The Lancer Battalion welcomed the parents with more than 120 cadets who marched onto the football field in a military manner.

After a presentation of the National Anthem was performed by East Union student Vincent Ferdi playing his trumpet followed by the posting of the colors by East Union’s JROTC Honor guard.  Colonel Kevin Holeman, who is the battalion’s new Senior Army Instructor or SAI, introduced himself and described his goals for the New Year in JROTC.

Following the SAI, the battalion commander C/LTC Kaitlyn Benedetti took charge and welcomed the community and had each of her staff introduce themselves and their positions. To conclude the event the Drill Team commander led a group of cadets onto the track to show the marching skills that the cadets had learned. After the military pass and review was completed the parents and cadets enjoyed a delicious bowl of ice cream and chocolate syrup.

The Ice Cream Social was a big success as over 250 parents and guests attended the annual event.
