Academic rallies on tap for Sierra, Lathrop high schools

Lathrop High and Sierra High will honor students on Friday for academic achievement and good citizenship.

The Spartan GREAT Ceremony is expected to be patterned after the Lobo Gold Rally, with the Lathrop High event beginning at 10 a.m.

The reason for this is simple: Jennifer Spellman, who is now Lathrop High’s English teacher, organized many of the Lobo Gold rallies during her time at Sierra.

She indicated that over 600 students will be honored at the Spartan event.

At Sierra, some 900 students will be recognized during the Fall Lobo Gold event.

Leading the way will be those achieving a grade point average of 4.0 or better. They’ll earn Lobo Gold honors.

Students with 3.25 GPA and above along with those at 2.25 and higher, respectively, may get Lobo Silver and Lobo Blue recognition.

Those honored can expect to receive a packet with certificates and office supplies. As a bonus, some may also get gift cards and prizes for their efforts.

The school often relies on the support of local businesses and community members to make the Lobo Gold Rally possible.

Just this past spring, Sierra received over $800 in donations, with the money used to purchase gift cards to supplement the student packets.

In addition, both events will include teachers, students and staff members taking part in skits, dances and musical numbers.
