They’re looking forward to the Health Occupation Students of America National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.

The local students are that of Cheryl Behler’s Regional Occupation Program class at the Lindbergh Educational Center.

On June 23 through 26, they’ll take part in competitive events, educational symposiums or workshops, and will have an opportunity to meet fellow HOSA students from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico sharing similar goals.

But in order to get to the national event at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, local students have been relying on various donations and fundraisers to help defray cost.

One such benefit will be a car wash on Saturday in the parking lot of the old Long John Silvers seafood restaurant at North Main Street and Louise Avenue.

The fundraiser is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from those involved in HOSA.

“We’re also accepting any and all donations,” Behler said.

Nineteen of her students recently took part in the 23rd annual Cal-HOSA State Leadership event in Ontario.

They came away encouraged to attend the national leadership conference after accounting for eight Top 10 finishes in various categories. Even more impressive was that this was their first time competing in the state event.

Information on this weekend’s car wash or to make a donation can be obtained by contacting Behler at (209) 858-7330, ext. 56625.
