Students from be.cuisine of the Manteca Unified School District’s be.tech Charter High School will be part of tonight’s ‘A Seat at the Table’ event.

Starting at 6 o’clock inside the MUSD Conference Room, 2271 Louise Ave., parents or guardians along with their student who might be interested in culinary arts will have a chance to hear firsthand of the benefits and opportunities from those already in the program.

“We accept students in grades 9 through 12 living in San Joaquin County and the surrounding areas,” said Chef Instructor / Internship Coordinator Andrew Griggs.

Students enrolled in this program can learn basic food safety, knife skills, food preparation, food service, catering and classic restaurant cooking and baking methods.

They’ll receive training via state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, learning from industry chefs.

Griggs, who has worked with and trained be.cuisine students for about five years, said those who enroll in the program will have a chance to get practical work experience in food services at some of the local businesses.

As a result, many students are offered internships or get a chance to participate in community activities and events.

Griggs will have some of those students share their experiences at today’s ‘A Seat At the Table.’
