RIPON – Ripon Unified will look to fill a principal vacancy.

In closed session at last Monday’s meeting at Ripon City Hall, the school board announced that the principal at Colony Oak Elementary School was placed on the re-employment list.

By that, Superintendent Louise (Nan) Johnson indicated that the person who previously occupied this top administrative post will be placed on a 39-month re-employment list as is standard under such layoff notices.

Due to matters of confidentiality, the district officials are prohibited from mentioning the principal by name and the reason for the layoff.

According to the school website, Sylvia Eheler was the principal at Colony Oak. She recently completed her fifth year there and, before that, was an assistant principal at a middle school. Eheler has a degree in English along with single subject and multiple subject teaching credentials from California State University, Stanislaus.

The district will look to hire in-house – specifically, within RUSD – for the Colony Oak principal vacancy, Johnson said.

“We hope to have the position filled before the start of school,” she added.
