EU, Sierra stage back to school nights Wednesday

East Union and Sierra High will have Back to School Night on Wednesday.

For EU parents, the evening is an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their children by attending classes – albeit, 15 minutes or so per classroom – and meet with the teacher.

“You will learn about the content of each course, become familiar with teacher expectations and standards for behavior as well as academic performance,” said East Union Principal John Alba.

Booths about activities and information will be set up in the EU quad area, with food and entertainment at 5 p.m. and classroom visitations beginning at 6:15.

At Sierra, the Future Farmers of America / Ag Department will kick off Back to School Night by sponsoring a barbecue under the cafeteria overhang from 5 to 7 o’clock.

Cost for hamburger, chips and a drink is $6.

Assistant Principal Dan Beukelman is urging parents to bring a copy of their student’s schedule to the Back to School Night, which will again be held in the cafeteria and large gym (students with last names beginning A to K at 6 o’clock, and L to Z at 6:45).

Parents will be limited to a few minutes per one teacher. “This enables all parents the opportunity to spend time with their student’s teacher and less time waiting in line,” Principal Steve Cark added.

Counselors, in addition, will be available to meet with parents and discuss class schedules along with future plans.

They’ll also take appointment for more in-depth discussions.
