Bhanupreet Kaur Gill and Rebecca Culpepper have enjoyed their years at Manteca High.

They attended school every day, studied hard, made friends, and took part in various activities.

“But what I’ll remember most about high school are the teachers and friends who helped shape me,” said Gill, who earned the distinguished honor of valedictorian.

Culpepper is salutatorian.

For her, study sessions could also be a social event.

“We would cram for a test, have fun, and yet be very productive,” Culpepper said on Thursday.

She and Gill will lead the graduating Class of 2010 at tonight’s commencement exercises scheduled for 7 o’clock at Guss Schmiedt Field.

Culpepper will be accompanied by the memory of her father, Darrell, who passed away about a week ago and was laid to rest on Wednesday.

She’s the daughter of Michele Culpepper.

Bhanupreet Gill is the daughter of Baljinder and Ranvir Gill.

She had an accumulative 4.41 grade point average and will attend California State University, Stanislaus, in the fall to study biology or microbiology.

“I’m looking to get into neurology,” she said. “I would like to become a neurologist.”

Gill was involved in the Buffalo Community Service Club, Academic Decathlon, Earth Club, AP Biology Club, Lathrop Community Center and Give Every Child A Chance.

She also received the Citizenship Award and was Cadet of the Month. Her body of volunteer work included Kaiser Permanente pharmacy, Dell’Osso Farms, and tutoring youngsters.

In addition, Gill had perfect attendance while Culpepper was recognized for excellent attendance.

Culpepper had a 4.40 GPA and will soon be attending UC Irvine.

She’s leaning towards majoring in economics or accounting. “I still might change to business,” Culpepper added.

She was involved in the Christian Club, Thespian Club, Chess Club, Young Conservatives Club, Language Club, AP French Club, and Debate Club.

Culpepper also participated in track and field, choir and the spring musical.

The stage is set for Culpepper and Gill to address family, friends and special guests at the graduation ceremonies.
