Kindergarten Boot Camp help kids obtain a leg up

Manteca Unified School District’s School Readiness Department is offering Kindergarten Boot Camp. Three sessions will be offered to both parents and their soon-to-be kindergarten children on Monday, July 30.

Why a boot camp for parents and their children? A flyer explains why in three questions.

“Did you know… Homework is required in kindergarten?

“Your child will be expected to read by January?

“Parents are the biggest factor for K success?”

The flyer then goes to explain what parents can expect to learn from the kinder boot camp. They include knowing what kindergarten expectations are, learning various strategies that will make kinder homework fun for their young children, and acquiring tools and games for homework from the boot camp.” Each child participating will receive a K Boot Camp Homework Kit.

Attendance will be limited to 25 kindergarteners and parents per session. There will be child care available for parents’ other children while they attend the boot camp sessions.

Available sessions are 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m., and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on July 30. Families can reserve a space now by calling (209) 858-0846.

Funding for the boot camp is provided by Manteca Unified and by First 5 San Joaquin.
