Leaky roof repairs for EU, Golden West

Golden West Elementary and East Union High School will be sporting new roofs when they open in August for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Manteca Unified Board of Trustees unanimously gave the green light to award the reroofing contract to Advanced Roofing of Oakdale. The company submitted the lowest “responsible bid” out of the five outfits that responded to the bid invitation sent out by the district.

The total cost for the repairing the leaky roofs at both school sites is $374,524 – with $251,567 going to the Golden West job and $122,957 tagged for the Lancers’ work. Age is part of the reason behind the roof repairs. The roof that is being repaired at Golden West, for example, is 20 years old.

Manteca Unified Senior Director of Operations David Burke said reroofing will begin after school ends and is projected to be completed just before the start of the 2014-2015 school year in August.

Part of the work that will be done at Golden West will involve the replacement of 20 percent of the school’s skylights. The roofing repairs at East Union will be in the gymnasium and weight room.
