Manteca Unified fair pre-show is Saturday

The San Joaquin County Fair is right around the corner.

In order to prepare students for this big event, Manteca Unified will host the 2011 Fair Pre-Show on Saturday, May 14, beginning at 9 a.m. at the school farm.

The district’s agriculture facility is located directly behind the MUSD office complex, 2271 W. Louise Ave.

Janet Dyk, who is the AgVenture coordinator, is helping organize the Pre-Show. Included will be a tour of the new school farm complex along with animal judging, flower sales, and Tri-tip barbecue from Fagundes Meats with all the fixings.

Barbecue tickets are being pre-sold at the Manteca High, Sierra High, East Union High, Weston Ranch High, and Lathrop High agriculture departments.

Cost is $9 for adults and $4.50 for children 12 and under along with the exhibitors.

The scheduled judging events are:

•Rabbit show, 9:50 to 10:10 a.m.

•Turkey and chicken showmanship, 10:15 to 10:35 a.m.

•Sheep and market sheep show, 10:40 to 11:30 a.m.

•Market goat show, 11:35 to 11:55 a.m.

The Fair Pre-Show will conclude at noon with lunch and a barn tour.

The SJC Fair is scheduled from June 15 through 19.
