The Manteca Unified School District’s Nutrition Education Department is hosting a free Family Food & Wellness Expo on Wednesday.

Director of Nutrition Services Patty Page calls this inaugural event at Golden West Elementary School “interactive and informative” for those MUSD students and their families in attendance.

The Family Food & Wellness Expo is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the school gym, 1031 N. Main St. in Manteca.

This year, five school sites in the district qualified for the SB 138 free and reduced-price meal programs. Page indicated that families from those sites will be required to fill out the necessary forms, which, along with someone to assist them, will be available at the Expo.

Information and application forms for the prepayment set-up meal plan for students will also be available.

There will be plenty of fun activities including food demos, games, and prizes.

Up for grabs will be four bicycles — a few lucky students will have a chance for this free giveaway.

“People will enjoy the free tasting,” Page said.

Those in attendance will have an opportunity to try out school lunch samples.

In addition, they’ll learn about smart snacks and the wellness policy.

The Junior Farmer’s Market — made possible by MUSD and Raley’s Extra Credit Fund —will be set up at the Expo.

Students can receive Nutrition Education Dollars good for the purchase of fruits and vegetables (Gold Star Foods is the produce vendor) at the Junior Farmer’s Market just by listening to a 15-minute presentation on the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables not to mention the importance of locally sourced produce.
