Earlier this year, Sierra High Principal Susan Pearson established a goal of 750 on the state Department of Education’s Academic Performance Index.

She remains encouraged, especially since her students made a 36-point jump from that of the previous year, going from 708 to 744.

The API is part of the Standardized Testing and Reporting or STAR. Scores range from 200 to 1,000 in the various subject groups.

Sierra’s API led all comprehensive secondary sites in the Manteca Unified School District.

“We need to continually increase those numbers,” Pearson said to the 1,035 students honored at Friday’s Lobo Gold Rally. “I have the ultimate faith in you.”

The segment of the spring assembly / rally – a fall event was held back in October – consisted of 119 Lobo Gold recipients (4.0 GPA or better).

“Lobo Gold students are the epitome of excellence,” Pearson said of the elite group. “They made academics their priority.”

Some 435 achieved Lobo Silver while 471 earned Lobo Blue.

In addition, 44 students with 3.6 GPAs or better for three or more terms received academic block or letter awards.
The event consisted of musical, dance, and comedic performances.

Included was the agile and dexterous dance trio, All-Time High. Members also performed at the Lobo Gold Fall event, representing the Asian Club.

Connor Millen did his comedy routine – the first-time ever that a standup act was attempted during the 15-year history of the Lobo Gold rally – and students, friends, relatives and school and district officials also got a chuckle out of the Avatar / Jersey Shore spoof.
