The San Joaquin AgFest Junior Show and Auction is scheduled next month.
In preparation for those four days – June 16 through 20 at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds – the Manteca Unified school farm will host its annual Future Farmers of America Pre Show on Saturday, May 9 a.m. to noon.
Cost is $6 but with it comes a pancake breakfast served up with eggs, sausage, and a beverage, from 7 to 9.
FFA members spent the entire school year raising their livestock for the county fair event. At the Pre Show, they’ll practice displaying their pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, dairy heifers, and turkeys.
The MUSD school farm is located behind the district office complex on Airport Way and Louise Avenue.
AgFest is a new name dedicated to FFA and 4-H members exhibiting their vocational projects and showcasing and selling their livestock projects.
This county-wide agricultural event is a partnership of the Delta Cal Section FFA, SJC 4-H, San Joaquin County Office of Education’s Educational Foundation, and the Second Agricultural District.
Besides the daily livestock show, AgFest will feature vocational exhibits, a ‘Digging’ In the Dirt children’s ag education area, local producers, food and vendors.
In addition, the week will feature “Farm to Fork,” a gourmet evening consisting of local restaurants using the freshest of locally grown ingredients.
