School board candidate workshop set Thursday

Those interested in running for the Ripon Unified school board are encouraged to attend Thursday’s Candidate Informational Workshop at the Ripon Memorial Library, 333 W. Main St.

RUSD with assistance from the League of Women Voters will discuss the requirements for potential candidates and the current office holders on what it takes to qualify for the Nov. 6 ballot beginning at 6 p.m.

Ernie Tyhurst, who represents Trustee Area 2, will not seek another term after spending the past 12 years on the board.

Board President Chad Huskey and Vice President Kit Oase will both seek re-election.

All three made their intentions known at the June 18 school board meeting.

Huskey represents Trustee Area 1 while Oase is the Trustee Area 3 representative.

Candidates in this election must be from those Trustee Area 1, 2 and 3 (log on to for the map).

Those in attendance will have an opportunity to the Trustee Area maps adopted in 2014.

The informational session on the history on the redrawing of the trustee boundaries based on the 2010 U.S. Census will be provided.

A discussion of the School Board Candidates Handbook – made possible by the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office – along with a question and answer session as related to the process of becoming a school board candidate are also part of the workshop.
