RIPON – Ripon Unified continued to show positive enrollment figures.

While some public schools are struggling to maintain their student population, Ripon, in contrast, has gradually displayed increased numbers.

Take this month, for example. According to Kathy Coleman, director of curriculum and categorical programs, the district has 14 more students compared to that of year ago.

That’s also 10 more than a month ago, she said at Monday’s Ripon Unified school board meeting.

The district currently has an enrollment of 3,056, including 448 at Ripon Elementary, 427 at Ripona, 444 at Weston, 439 at Colony Oak, 375 at Park View, 894 at Ripon High, and 29 in independent studies.

Park View displayed significant growth, going from 330 students in February to 375 in March.

Ripon High has 19 more students over that span.

In addition, the school board approved the 2011-2012 calendar.

This was the same one approved earlier by the teachers and staff, who will receive seven furlough days including six at the start of the school year.

Staff will have 177 working days while teachers will operate on 175 days.

As for students, their first day of instruction is Aug. 10.

Under the modified traditional plan, they’ll have a week off in mid October.

The winter break is scheduled from Dec. 23 through Jan. 6, with the week of March 19 through 23 accounting for the spring break.

The last day of instruction will be May 24.
