RIPON — The Ripon Unified school board will consider a request from the Chamber of Commerce tonight on waiving the facility-use fees for the upcoming city-wide Fourth of July celebration.

In particular, the Chamber is looking again to have usage of the black top and lawn at Ripon Elementary School.

Last year, RUSD, the City of Ripon and the Chamber were part of a collaborative effort that successfully brought back the Independence Day pyrotechnics display from Mistlin Sports Park to historic downtown.

The open session begins at 7 p.m. in the City of Ripon Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Stephanie Hobbs, president of the Ripon Community Athletic Foundation, giving an update on the progress on the revitalization efforts at Stouffer Field.

•Superintendent Louise (Nan) Johnson reviewing the key points of Governor Jerry Brown’s May revision of the state budget proposal for the fiscal year 2012-13.

• The board considering adopting a resolution that renders local zoning ordinances inapplicable to the Ripon High School scoreboard project.

• Trustees convening in the district naming committee by proposing the field house at Stouffer Field named in honor of Duke Tornell.

• Board members looking into the specification of the election order.
