Students at Woodward School followed Andrew’s dream of having freckles.

They were inspired by the character Andrew Marcus in the Judy Blume book, “Freckle Juice.” Woodward youngsters read this book at the first Parent-Child Book Club meeting held Dec. 6.

According to program coordinator Michelle Crippen, the purpose of the Book Club is to promote family literacy while sharing the love of reading among teachers, students and their families.

In “Freckle Juice,” they read that Andrew, a second-grade student, envied Nicky Lane for his numerous freckles on his face, ears and neck.

Crippen noted that the first chapter was read aloud by teachers as families were provided a copy of the book along with a folder full of resources.

“The evening was completed with a freckle-maker, freckle juice and freckled cookies (for everyone),” she added.

 All families involved read the book prior to the meeting and will do so again for January.

At each meeting, each member can get involved in book-related activities as the next book title will soon be revealed.

Sessions are held inside the Woodward School Multi-Purpose Room.
