Youngsters can learn some of the police procedures on collecting evidence at a crime scene.

This is part of next month’s Manteca Police Junior CSI Academy at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manteca / Lathrop.

Session One is open to incoming third- and fourth- grade students and is scheduled for July 14 through 17, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Session Two is for fifth and sixth graders on July 21 through 24, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Cost is $25 for non-members and $15 for members.

Spaces are limited to the first 25 to turn in their paperwork to John Scharf of the local Boys & Girls Clubs. Deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, June 20.

The Jr. CSI cadets will receive an education on law enforcement, crime scene processing, evidence collection, and fingerprinting, according to Scharf.

“We really emphasize the importance of teamwork, respect, positive behavior, pride in one’s work, and resistance to drugs and alcohol,” he said. “It’s our hope that each cadet will leave the program with a better understanding of crime scene investigation techniques, citizenship and the rewards of community involvement.”
