The Feast of St. Anthony will be celebrated on Wednesday.

Sister Ann Venita Britto and her Ministry of Caring spent the past week preparing for the event honoring the patron saint of the parish.

They’ll host the free luncheon open to all seniors and special guests at the St. Anthony’s parish gymnasium on the corner of North Fremont Avenue and Sutter Street, Manteca, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Born in Lisbon, St. Anthony is often recognized as the patron saint of lost articles, according to Sister Ann. “What many don’t know is that he’s also the marriage saint because he was good at reconciling couples,” she said.

In addition, he earned the title of “Evangelical Doctor” due to his insight into the Bible coupled with brilliant preaching.

Locally, the Feast of St. Anthony will include hot meal prepared by the Ministry of Caring, with the servers being the students from the parochial school.

Those attending the luncheon often come from independent, assisted living or nursing facilities such as the Commons, Merrill Gardens, Almond Blossom, and St. Jude’s, to name a few.

The event is open to all regardless of their religious affiliation, and will be accompanied by live music.

In addition, those attending can come away with goodie bag and a chance to win the centerpiece or one of the prizes in the drawing.
