Much has already been made of the three-day carnival surrounding the Fourth of July weekend in Ripon.
Elected leaders on Tuesday will talk about the actual day the pyrotechnic show will take place at the Mistlin Sports Complex during the 7 p.m. meeting in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma St. The choices are July 3 or 4.
Manteca’s City Council voted last month to keep its Independence Day aerial fireworks on July 4 instead of moving it to the day before due to the three-day holiday weekend.
The 2015 Fireworks Committee is requesting that the Ripon City Council approve a one-year contract with FX Fireworks America.
Since 2005, the City of Ripon has gone with Fireworks America.
Although pleased with the service, the Committee has raised enough for the initial deposit – $10,000 or half of the contract for the $20,000 show – for FX Fireworks America, with the remaining half due 10 days following the event, according to contract.
The Committee indicates that about $15,000 is in the Fireworks Account, including $2,500 at Oak Valley Community Park, $2,100 (made possible by Tony Mistlin, Mislin Honda auto sales) at the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, and $11,000 in the City of Ripon Fireworks Fund. Donations along with tickets sales from the carnival are expected to defray the difference.
At last month’s meeting, the Ripon City Council agreed to ink a pact with Midway for the carnival scheduled from July 3 through 5.
For starters, it’s no charge to the city.
The carnival company agreed to provide the city with 30 percent of all pre-sale and tickets sold at the gate as well as handle all clean up including restrooms upon completion of the carnival.
Ripon, in turn, would provide the carnival folks with 500 by 500 feet area for the rides along with water service.
