A Foster Farms truck pulled into the Second Harvest Food Bank yard Friday morning with a load of some 700 turkeys to help in the feeding of needy families in Manteca and San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.
Heide White, representing the Livingston-based company, presented a large check to Food Bank CEO Mike Mallory as a fork lift operator was beginning to unload the cases of birds for distribution to hungry families.
Those cases of turkey were in turn taken into the food bank’s freezer facilities within the Industrial Park Drive facility in the Manteca Industrial Park.
Foster Farms has been making Thanksgiving turkey donations to West Coast food banks for many years in its outreach program. More than one third of families are unaware that some 49 million Americans do not have enough to eat — equal to 15 percent of American households.
In addition to the turkeys they donate, Foster Farms provided 7,500 people with more than 24,000 complete chicken dinners throughout the summer.
