First Assembly of God Pastor Mike Dillman and dozens upon dozens of other volunteers don’t think people should spend Christmas Eve alone.
That’s why they are getting together this Wednesday to serve a free Christmas Eve dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at David & Sylvia’s Family Dining restaurant.
“This isn’t just for struggling families,” Dillman said. “We are inviting people who are spending the holidays alone or don’t want to cook up a big meal for themselves.”
Dillman said there are plenty of volunteers helping. He noted that the community has come forward with donating the food needed for the meal and that the owners of the restaurant have turned their facility over to them free of charge.
The only thing they still need are toys for gifts for the kids of struggling families who may be in attendance.
They are asking that unwrapped gifts be dropped by the restaurant. That way they can be wrapped and distributed to the age — and gender — appropriate child.
Dinner will be served to anybody that wants to come from 4 to 6 p.m. It is not going to be like a meal at a rescue mission. Guests are going to come in and sit down at the table and will be served just like at a restaurant.
Dillman re-emphasized the invitation is being extended to “the homeless, folks that live by themselves and don’t have the time and the desire to fix a Christmas meal, and families that are coming up short in this tough economy.”
