Pinky Rideau gave everything she had when she was up on the gazebo stage at Library Park Tuesday afternoon.

And the hundreds of people who spent their time browsing the farm fresh fruit within earshot couldn’t help but enjoy what it was they were hearing.

For the second straight week, entertainment was a big part of the package at the Manteca Convention and Visitors Bureau downtown farmer’s market and the family atmosphere that Rideau enjoyed being a part of.

“We normally don’t get a chance to play in a whole lot of places that are family friendly, so to see so many people out here enjoying a nice day is a great thing,” she said. “We really enjoy playing these free gigs because they’re a lot of fun.”

Along the main thoroughfare, plenty of commerce was taking place as local farmers were pushing their freshest fruit to customers – some of whom waited all week until the event picked up again – and included a little bit of everything in their booths.

For Michael Sanders, it was a chance to not only get the freshest fruit around, but to do so in an environment that is both fun and family-friendly – taking some time out to enjoy Rideau and her band while soaking up the mid-80s weather.

“There aren’t a whole lot of other places like it, and the fact that it’s right here in our own backyard makes it that much better,” Sanders said. “You can stroll down the street, pick out some fruit that you want to take home, and take some time to listen to some good music.

“It’s something that Mantecans should be proud to have here.”
