Friendship Group meeting monthly starting Sept. 24

Friendship Group will begin meeting at Immanuel Christian formed Church on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.

Friendship Ministries provides an opportunity for adults with intellectual disabilities to grow spiritually and enjoy Christian fellowship.  The format to be used is to meet for about 90 minutes, twice a month. During that meeting the class meets together for greeting, worship, sharing together, and prayer. This is followed by small group time with one or two mentors and includes a time of refreshment. The small groups will be studying a book called “Discover Your Gifts.”   They will also have meetings for fun only, creating a time for fellowship and interaction with friends in a special way, such as movie theme parties or movie viewing parties.

Outside of meeting times, opportunities for fellowship with church members or attending service projects in the community enable our members to use their gifts and abilities. This past April, a couple of Friendship group members attended the Women’s Retreat in the Santa Cruz area.

Greta Smith, a Friendship volunteer mentor from the area (volunteers do not have to attend Immanuel CRC) enjoys Friendship group. “I have had the amazing opportunity to be involved in Friendship group for the last year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know new friends and building relationships with the friends that come to our group.  Being able to help others build stronger relationships with people and (with) Christ has been a wonderful opportunity.  I look forward to participating in the friendship group again this year and to see our group grow even more this year.”

It is important for everyone to feel they have a purpose in the life of the church and the community and they believe Friendship Group provides a place for all to have that opportunity. New ideas and service opportunities are welcomed by Friendship leaders. Volunteer mentors are needed, based on the number of adults intending to attend Friendship Group.  There will be a mentor preparatory meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. If you have an interest in participating in the Friendship Group, whether as a friend or as a volunteer mentor,  call the church office for information.
