October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

That’s the campaign of the National Breast Cancer Foundation developed to increase awareness of the disease and to encourage steps towards early detection.

At Friday’s football game at Guss Schmiedt Field, Manteca High will honor the fighters, survivors and fallen angels of the community.

“We are asking our crowd to pink out the stands in support for the need for a cure for breast cancer,” according to school officials.

The Buffaloes will be taking on Lathrop that evening. The celebration ceremony involving the fighters and survivors will take place between the varsity and sophomore game at about 6:30 p.m.

Donations will be collected for Breast Cancer Research right before the Valley Oak League varsity clash involving the Buffaloes and visiting Spartans.

In addition, pink MHS Buffalo shirts will be made available for this special event on a first come, first serve basis for $15.

“We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go,” said NBCF, which continues to seek out support for the cause.

More information on the shirts can be obtained by contacting www.shjelmstad@musd.net.
