Do you like green eggs and ham?

That very question could be answered Tuesday during Read Across America sponsored by the National Education Association, celebrating the birthday of beloved children’s author, Theodor Geisel, born March 2, 1904.

He’s better known as Dr. Seuss.

Youngsters of all ages grew up with his books – Cat in the Hat; Harry Hears a Who; How the Grinch Stole Christmas; One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, to name a few.

But it’s Green Eggs and Ham that most remember on this day.

At Lathrop School, for example, the breakfast concoction will be served up in the morning to kindergarteners, first-, second-, and third- grade students.

Meanwhile, NEA encourages this day for reading to youngsters, inviting people from the various communities to just that at schools, libraries, and community centers.

In the past, many of the Manteca Unified sites have strongly been involved in Read Across America, bringing back retired teachers and officials from the district and the San Joaquin County Office of Education to serve as guest readers.

In some cases, the day is celebrated with appearances by the Dr. Seuss characters on campus.
