An 18-year-old shooting victim has died in Lathrop.
Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy David B. Konecny said the homicide occurred in the 1000 block of O Street late Monday. Deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting at 11:17 p.m.  When deputies arrived on the scene they found a man who was a victim of a gunshot.
The man was transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed  to his injuries, deputies said. The coroner’s office identified the victim as Mark Martinez, 18.  No further information was available as the case is under investigation by Sheriff’s detectives.
It is the second murder in Lathrop this year.
In  mid-April a 26-year-old was shot to death.
Witnesses said two subjects had been arguing in a nearby gas station when one was seen driving their vehicle onto Lathrop Road toward I-5 when a collision occurred with a van. At that point, the passenger in the car that left the gas station rolled out of the car as the door popped open and onto the pavement.
When medics arrived on the scene they discovered the injured man had multiple gunshot wounds that claimed his life.
Monday’s murder was the second time in as many weeks a local resident has been killed by gunfire. Two weeks ago 28-year-old Manteca resident Daniel Arreola was gunned down outside of a First Communion party in San Leandro. That case is still being investigated as well. A car accident nearby that was initially responded by officers – they arrived at before learning of the nearby shooting – is being looked into as a possible connection to man’s murder.
