A Manteca girl makes good as a hair stylist and lead actress on a hilarious, new truTV game show series airing for the first time Monday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.

Melissa Kayelle McKenzie, 30, a 2002 graduate of Sierra High School is acting across from her male stylist counterpart “Boogie” Langerston. She is using her first and middle name as her actual stage name in a new career that has blossomed out of a Glendale styling salon on Glendale Boulevard where she has had a booth serving her own private clientele while living in the Southland.

Bursting with excitement and wit, McKenzie will undoubtedly find a Manteca audience of past classmates who also attended Nile Garden Elementary School with her in the rural area south of Manteca.

A preview party is being planned for the night of the first showing in Southern California with her parents Dave and Kathy McKenzie on the guest list. Dave is retired detective from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and Kathy recently retired from the business development office at Doctors Hospital Manteca.

truTVs brand new series is expected to have its viewers looking over their shoulders the next time they enter a hair salon for a trim – men and women. Rated as a “hilarious game show,” host Jon Garbrus of College Humor Originals and his gang of accomplices take over a real, working hair salon in each episode. They then proceed to ambush unsuspecting clients with a bunch of lively, twisted pop-culture games with McKenzie and “Boogie” creating their imaginative hair styling surprises.

While stylists shape up their ‘do, contestants will compete for up to $10,000. But they better be careful – one wrong move and someone might get hair jacked, sending them home with the most outrageous haircut of their lives.

All 16 episodes have already been taped for the entire first season.

Currently seen in 92 million U.S. households, trueTV features the popular original series of Impractical Jokers, The Carbonaro Effect, Hardcore Pawn, Jokers Wild and South Beach Tow. In addition, truTV is a partner in airing the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championships.
