High schools gearing up for start of school

This was the calm before the storm.
Droves of students throughout Manteca Unified will soon be arriving on campus in preparation for the new school year.
The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 7.
At some of the sites, students came in for enrollment during this past week.
“It was busy over here,” said Martha Arcos at Lathrop High.
She’s been in charge as Registrar since the opening of the school in 2008. Attendance at LHS for the opening of the 2017-2018 school year is estimated at 1,420.
“We’re ready to go (for the new school year),” added LHS Office Manager Taci Carden.
Registration begins on Wednesday for sophomores, juniors and seniors, who must have all fees and fines cleared prior to the sign-up sessions.
ID photos will also be taken that day in the cafeteria, with students asked to dressed appropriately, abiding by the dress code.
On Thursday, freshmen are expected to meet in the large gym for their part of the “Spartans Unite” orientation, with this one being handled by Link Crew.
Beginning at 8 a.m., Link Crew leaders will welcome the newcomers with ice-breaking exercises and fun activities. From there, freshmen will go through their registration session, from 12:30 to 2:20 p.m.

Sierra High
Link Crew will kick off the week with freshmen orientation taking place in the large gym, from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.
Registration begins for seniors (7:30 a.m.) and freshmen (10:30 a.m.) on Wednesday, and Thursday for juniors (7:30 a.m.) and sophomores (10:30 a.m.).

East Union
Orientation for freshmen and new students will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday inside the Dalben Center.
The registration for sophomores will also take place in the large gym beginning at 8 a.m., with the freshmen following at 10 a.m.
Juniors can register on Thursday beginning at 8 a.m. while seniors can get ready for the upcoming year starting at 10 a.m.

Manteca High
Buffalo Round Up Days 2017 will kick off in Guss Schmiedt Field on Wednesday with the Link Crew-sponsored freshmen orientation from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
After that, the newcomers will make their way to Winters Gym for class schedules at Winter Gym, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
The Round Up for seniors is also planned that day in the gym, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
On Thursday, the Round Up continues for juniors (7:30 to 9 a.m.) and seniors (9:30 to 11 a.m.)

Weston Ranch
The Back to School Cougar Convention Days are set to begin on Wednesday in the large gym from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for sophomores, juniors and seniors.
On Thursday, ninth graders will convene in the large gym beginning at 8 a.m. for their freshmen orientation.
