John Holbrook — who is closing in on a quarter of century of service as an elected official — is being inducted into the Manteca Hall of Fame.

The dinner and induction ceremonies for the Hall of Fame take place Saturday, May 10, at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane. Tickets are $60 apiece and available at the Manteca Boys & Girls Club, 545 Alameda St., or by calling 239-KIDS.

Other members of the Class of 2014 are Dr. Stephen A. Lin, health care; Jeff Liotard, community service; Steve Winter, education; and Manteca’s “Golden Girls” — Evelyn Allen, Betty Bergthold, Kathryn Lauriston, and Selma Wrigglesworth, at-large.

Holbrook is currently serving on the South San Joaquin Irrigation District board. It is a position he has held for seven years after being appointed in 2007 to fill the unexpired term of Nick DeGroot. Prior to that, he served 17 years on the Manteca Unified School District board.

Holbrook has been a resident of rural Manteca since 1950.

Holbrook was an athlete and an honor student at Manteca High where he graduated in 1961.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Holbrook earning the rank of Chief Boatswain Mate during his stint in the military. While pursuing his degree at Delta College, Holbrook worked with the San Joaquin County Public Works road department.

He is retired from the City of Stockton where he helped oversee operation of the municipal wastewater treatment plant.

Holbrook, along with his wife Denise, established the Holbrook Family Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund. It has helped police officers in Manteca, Lathrop, and Ripon secure additional training in tactical, defensive, and practical firearm use.

Holbrook is also a member of the Manteca High Hall of Fame.
