Sister Ann Venita Britto was reunited with a longtime friend this week.

She and Annabelle Rego were classmates at St. Joseph’s Convent School in Mumbai some 55 years ago.

Rego, who now lives in Australia, was in Manteca as Sister Ann and her Ministry of Caring was getting some final touches done for Thursday’s Hot Summer Luncheon.

This event is free to all seniors regardless of their religious affiliation and will once again be held at the St. Anthony’s parish gym on the corner of North Fremont Avenue and Sutter Street.

“It’s too bad she won’t be here for the luncheon,” Sister Ann said of Rego, who was due to return home in the following days.

Beginning at 11 a.m., she’ll welcome folks from places such as St. Jude Care Center, Prestige, Brookdale, Del Webb, and Magnolia Court, to name a few.

Donations will once again make possible a warm meal with all the fixings.

Students from St. Anthony’s School are usually on hand to help out as table servers.

Sister Ann noted that donations also make possible the door prizes, table centerpieces and favors.

Entertainment will be live music provided by the Midnight Rockers formerly the JRP Band.

Cultural dancing at noon is also on tap for the luncheon that concludes at 1 p.m.
