Pvt. Jordan Whaite
Jordan Whaite
Pvt. Jordan Whaite, 19, of Manteca graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on September 18, 2009.  

Pvt. Whaite successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego as one of 80 recruits in Training Platoon 1036.  Following ten days home on leave he will report to Camp Pendleton for one month at Military Combat Training then to Military Occupation Specialty school in Oklahoma.  Pvt. Whaite’s MOS will be Field Artillery Fire Controlman.
 
Dustin Riker
Air Force Airman Dustin Riker graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Robert Riker of Lathrop.

Riker is a 2008 graduate of Sierra High School.

Bernard Fajardo
Navy Seaman Recruit Bernard Allan M. Fajardo, grandson of Flodel B. and Virginia R. Fajardo of Lathrop, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Fajardo completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Sarah Hernandez
Army Spec. Sarah M. Hernandez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the granddaughter of Michael Prater of Ripon.

Hernandez graduated in 2002 from Ripon High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg.

William Kavanaugh
Army Pvt. William C. Kavanaugh has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions.  Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

 He is the son of Mary Hopper of Lathrop and Frank Bender of Manteca.

Kavanaugh is a 2008 graduate of Sierra High School.

Peter Atengco
