Indoor soccer arena going along River Road at Mistlin Park

The proposed indoor soccer facility at the Mistlin Sports Park will be located on West River Road.
The change was made at the recent Ripon City Council meeting, with no discussion necessary on this latest donation by local businessman and philanthropist Tony Mistlin.
Elected leaders initially approved the project for the west side of the park – just west of the paver parking lot – back in December.
Mistlin’s architect Dave Stark suggested the change at West River Road near Warren Road / Fulton Road.
According to the staff report by City Administrator Kevin Werner, the recommended change was due in part to having “better access and also does not require the volume of fill to raise the elevation” as required at the original location.
Stark reportedly took notice of this during his site layout for the facility.
Earlier, he reviewed the preliminary layout with Werner, Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart, Director of Public Works Ted Johnston, and Recreation Director Kye Stevens.
They agreed with the changes.
“Not only because (it does away with) the utility and elevation challenges, but the new location also improves the overall layout of the park,” Werner said.
He indicated that the only negatives call for an existing house that would have to be abandon – Werner noted that this was likely going to happen with plans calling for the widening of River Road in this area – and the removal of a portion of orchard.
“At this time, the orchard is very old and is not a high producing orchard,” said Werner.
The indoor soccer facility and the 5,500-square-foot Gala’s Restaurant at the bottom of the 150-foot water tower are both gifts to the City of Ripon made possible by Tony Mistlin.
