Information sought for history book on French Camp School

FRENCH CAMP — Cynthia Henry is searching for memories of French Camp of old to add to her manuscript about the San Joaquin County community.

In her book she will be focusing on French Camp School, the oldest in the county at more than 159 years of educating youngsters from that area.

At the school’s 150 year celebration nearly 10 years ago, memories of the school and of the community were gleaned from attending past and current residents.  Over 40 persons have contributed to Henry’s historical effort to date.

Special mention in the pages relate to the terra cotta decorative work at the entrance to the 1927 vintage historical section at French Camp School.

Henry said that memories can range from a simple paragraph to as long as someone wishes to put their thoughts down on paper.  A list of topics is available that may open the memories of past French Camp residents.

The author is encouraging past contributors to make contact with her to finalize their entries and to provide photographs of themselves.

Anyone interested in writing or verbally sharing memories of the school or the community may contact Henry at (209) 823-5778 or email at cynthiahenry819@gmail.com.

There is no deadline for further entries due to the extensive time frame required for the project, Henry said.
