A Sunday collision in the intersection of Sutter and Lincoln streets shortly after 6 a.m. brought residents out of their homes to see a pickup truck upside down.

Guillermo Talavara, 55, of Manteca, told officers he didn’t see the stop sign as he was traveling northbound on Lincoln. The street had recently been resurfaced, officers said, and there was no signage painted on the street.

Talavara’s 2003 Nissan Frontier pickup was broadsided by a westbound 2001 Lincoln driven by Carlos Zavala, 30, of Manteca who said the pickup came out of nowhere and he couldn’t keep from hitting it when it crossed in front of him.

Talavara complained of only a skinned elbow from the crash. The identification on the door of the truck was Juan’s Gardening Service.
