JACKSON – As a five-time Grammy award winning, singer/songwriting guitar legend, it would be hard to overstate Robert Cray’s impact on rock, rhythm & blues. He is considered one of the greatest guitarists of his generation.

According to Guitar Player Magazine, “With a few exceptions, it used to be that there was the blues and there were the masses and never the twain shall meet. But Cray, who obviously is respected in blues circles, is a crossover smash.”

Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort will present The Robert Cray Band on Friday, May 4. The show is in the Grand Oak Ballroom at the Hotel. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Must be 21 to attend. Food and beverages will be available.

Tickets are on sale now and are $40 general admission, available online at JacksonCasino.com, at the Dreamcatcher’s Club in the Casino and by phone at 209-296-5495. Dreamcatcher’s Club® members can get discount tickets for just $20 at the club.

Along with his Grammy wins, Robert Cray has released 20 award winning multi-platinum albums, received 15 Grammy nominations, and was recently inducted into the 2011 Blues Hall of Fame.

The band features longtime (and Robert’s original) bassist Richard Cousins, keyboardist and band cornerstone since 1989 Jim Pugh, and drummer Anthony Braunagel (Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Taj Mahal).

It was Pugh who may have come up with the best description of Cray, when he told Blues Revue magazine, “Robert sings like Johnnie Taylor, plays like B.B. King, writes songs like he’s Elvis Costello, and he looks like Sidney Poitier.”

He has performed alongside blues titans Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and B.B. King, and has his own line of Fender Signature Guitars. Cray has also worked with legends Tina Turner, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Dixon.

His songs have been featured in “Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues” series. Cray has also appeared in Tina Turner’s TV special “Break Every Rule,” the Chuck Berry tribute “Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll” and the Rolling Stones’ pay-per-view video “Voodoo Lounge.”
