There will be some 20 “jailbirds” held throughout Friday in Agape Villages’ annual Jail ‘n’ Bail fundraiser at the Bank of Stockton on North Main Street.
Wearing black and white striped jail attire the volunteers will be busy calling friends and business associates asking for support with bail money to get them released from custody between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those funds will benefit the foster care operations serving the youth of the area.
Four judges are set to interrogate the Mantecans being held with sizeable bail amounts charged against them before they attempt to raise the needed funds toward their release.
Three judges have been tapped to serve from the ranks of community leaders including City Manager Karen McLaughlin, Fire Chief Kirk Waters and Police Chief Nick Obligacion. A limo is being used as the paddy wagon that will pick up the suspects and deliver them behind bars in the lobby at the banking facility.
This fundraiser is being held for the fifth consecutive year in Manteca. It is hosted every other year by the Oak Valley Community Bank and the Bank of Stockton. It also marks Agape’s 55th year serving the countless foster family needs in the community.
Those volunteering to be the Jailbirds include Pastor Mike Dillman, Connie Reed, Harris Griffin, Joann Beattie, John Coburn, Dylan George, Ann Christenson, Debbie Browning Ron Laffranchi, Amy Keiffer, Szlvia Austin, Janet Kleyn, David Schene, Ronna Borges, Hank Lawson, Daryll Quaresma and Kevin Wentworth.
Anyone wishing to offer “bribe” donations may mail their checks to 572 Commerce Court, 95336.
