Junior police academy set for Lathrop

The Lathrop Police Services division of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a second session of its annual Junior Police Academy this summer.

The second session will be July 13 through July 24. The academy is open to fifth through eighth grade students from Lathrop. Students must maintain at least a “C” grade point average, and have no criminal contact with Lathrop Police Services.

The course will include subjects like: basic introduction to criminal law, information on basic first aid, police traffic stops, a SWAT presentation, fingerprinting and evidence collection, K-9 demonstration, field trips, and more.
Cost for the academy course is $40, and includes an academy T-shirt, a binder, and a certificate of completion.

Applications are available at the Lathrop police station, City Hall, and the Community Center. Applications must be received at the Police Services by July 8 for the second session. Class size is limited to 25 students. Call the Lathrop Police Services for information at 858-5551.
