Jermaine Lenorse Williams, 30, appeared before Superior Court Judge Ron Northup Tuesday afternoon to answer charges of kidnapping and rape involving a 30-year-old woman he had reportedly invited to his home Friday night after exercising at a local gym.

Williams is being detained in the San Joaquin County Jail in lieu of $475,000 bail.

Sheriff’s dispatchers were able to trace the woman’s 911 call for help by using a radio beam triangulation procedure that led them to Williams’ parents’ home in the 1100 block of Pestana Avenue at 4 a.m. Saturday.  They said the woman had been held against her will for some four hours.

Officers said the woman had attempted to escape from him several times but was unsuccessful.  Dispatchers could hear the assaults over the phone line and the woman’s cries for help and for mercy until four Manteca officers and two sheriff’s deputies kicked in the front door of the home where they said they interrupted another assault in progress.

Williams is scheduled to continue his arraignment Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. He asked Judge Northup yesterday to allow him two telephone calls from jail to determine whether his family was going to hire a lawyer for him or if he would have to ask for a public defender.

Police said the woman said she had been locked in a closet in the home between attacks and was obviously in fear for her life.  She had been transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

A half dozen family members who were in the courtroom left immediately after Williams was led from the court by a bailiff.
