Robert Crabtree — an off-duty bartender  at the Lathrop Fireside Inn — has died from an alleged beating outside the  Lathrop Road bar.
Lathrop Police Services deputies said Crabtree had reportedly  fallen and hit his head on the pavement after allegedly being assaulted by Michael West, 37. Crabtree died Thursday following the 9:30 p.m. attack on Wednesday .
West  was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, battery against an emergency responder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Crabtree had  called police earlier in the evening to have West thrown out of the bar for allegedly stealing other people’s drinks and for taking money left for bartenders.
Patrons at the bar reportedly said they believed West had come back to specifically engage in a fight with Crabtree who had worked at the bar for over 20 years.
His family reportedly chose to take him off of life support when his brain stopped functioning following surgery.
West’s court date is set for Tuesday.
