LATHROP – The Lathrop Police Services division of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting its annual Junior Police Academy this summer July 20 through July 31. The academy is open to fifth- through eighth-grade students from Lathrop. Students must maintain at least a “C” grade average and have no criminal contact with Lathrop Police Services.
The course will include the following topics: basic introduction to criminal law, information on basic first aid, police traffic stops, a SWAT presentation, fingerprinting and evidence collection, K-9 demonstration, and field trips.
Cost for the academy course is $30 per participant and includes an academy T-shirt, a binder, and a certificate of completion.
Applications are available at the Lathrop police station, City Hall, and the Community Center. Applications must be received at the Police Services by Wednesday, July 15. Class size is limited to 25 students. Call the Lathrop Police Services for information at (209) 858-5551.
